ACT Clutch Durability

I'm looking at purchasing the ACT clutch NX9-HD00 for my 98 200SX SE-R. All I have right now is a CAI, although I do plan to do more mods when I get the cash. My question is this: will the ACT clutch last as long as its OEM counterpart? Or am I sacrificing durability for performance?

If this clutch will only last half as long then I'll probably go with an OEM clutch seeing as my car isn't making much extra power now anyway.

Any insight would be helpful.

I've heard good things about ACT Clutches. However, I've heard even better about the Centerforce Dual Friction Clutches. A friend of mine has been running one on his supercharged Maxima for quite some time now. Very easy to engage, almost like stock, and holds like a bear trap.
What's the best price you've been able to find on the ACT Clutch?

The price for the CenterForce clutch for my car is $492.95 plus $50.95 for a throwout bearing (as listed on their website).

I've found the ACT clutch for as little as $320 (although it's listed for $383 on their website).

I'm not really willing to pay for the CenterForce clutch, especially since my car is still pretty much stock. I'm also in Canada, so with the exchange rate I get to multiply prices by 1.5.

I've heard terrible things about Centerforce on Maximas. There has been only 1 guy I know of who liked Centerforce on his SC'd maxima. I know of 6 or so people who had their Centerforce clutches fail on their SC'd Maxima. It's got a horrible rep with the Maxima guys. Even the guys without SC's blow them. Go to www.maxima.org/forums and do a search on Centerforce and you'll see.

Nobody has anything but good to say about ACT though. It's held up to well over its' rated torque specs without fail.

You may also want to consider a Vitek Clutch. They're made from brand new Valeo parts, nothing is rebuilt like in the ACT's. Price is $315 + shipping and that price includes the throwout bearing and alignment tools. Has the same torque capacity as the ACT.

I've got the same clutch in my full bolt-on SE-R and it's fine. The clutch grabs real close to the floor but I think if I got off my lazy a** and adjusted the cable, it'd be better. The durability I believe is up there close to that of an OEM clutch. Don't let the amount of power each holds be a deciding factor as an OEM clutch would work fine for a bolt-on SE-R. I drove my car for 20K miles or so with all the bolt-ons from 90K (on the original clutch) to 110K before putting in the ACT. And the original clutch still had *TONS* of life left on it. Almost to the point that I was sorry I replaced it so soon. It had started slipping for a while and then the slippage went away right before I replaced it

I've actually decided to go with an OEM clutch. Here's why:

Price of ACT clutch: ~$600 CDN
Price of OEM clutch: $250 CDN
Mods on my car: 1 (intake)

It would be stupid to blow $350 for something I likely won't need for quite a while.

Thanks for the info!

What is the ultimate goal w/ your car? If you are sticking to simple bolt on mods. then an OEM clutch will work fine. If you plan on going no2, turbo, or get some serious mods. then I would upgrade.

Don't go stock, at least go with the JWT PP and 01 disc. At least if you want to run a 50 shot later on it will hold.
