Probably won't have a picture until next week. Started mocking up the first steps of the adapter to go from the Toyota Supra transmission to the SE-R bellhousing. Looks like it is going to work OK. The centering dowel on the front of the input shaft is a smaller diameter on the Toyota and the shoulder that the T/O bearing runs on is larger. I suspect that the pilot bearing won't be much of a problem and I think that if I run a Toyota Supra T/O bearing it will activate the clutch just fine. More news to follow.
Still working on the adaptation of the Supra trans to the FWD SE-R bellhousing. Haven't had much time. Work has kept me pretty busy. I am off again tomorrow for a two week trip. Hopefully when I get back from this one I will be able to post some pictures of the progress I have made.
I agree with this.. IF money was an object. Id love to see a RWD 200SX though. lol And actually being bored one day I was in the shop bays under a 22B looking at its AWD system.. if it wasnt for the gas tank being in the way, you could lower the exhaust and run the shaft right down there just like on the Subby I was looking at.. though youd need a smaller exhaust like on the Subby or else it would hit on speed bumps and shit.
Just found a different machine shop to help with the adapter between bell housing and tranny. I understand the 240SX easy comment but I have done a lot of work to create this b13 from a pile of tubing. Not likely to give up.
Machine shop has started working on the bellhousing. First step was to make a jig to be used to align the Toyota transmission with the Nissan bellhousing. Then we cut the SR20 bellhousing off about 3" back from the flange that mounts it to the engine block. Once that was done we have mocked up the depth that the transmission will have to sit from the back of the engine. The machine shop has turned out a custom insert for the rear of the crankshaft that will house the needle bearing input shaft bearing. Once we had figured the dimension for the transmission to the engine we cut the front of the Toyota bellhousing off. At this point the machine shop is working on parallel face cuts on both bellhousing parts. Once that is done it looks like the two halves of the bellhousing will weld together just about right. I plan on a couple of diamond shaped gussets on the side of the newly-created bellhousing to give it some additional strength.
For a clutch I have contacted clutchnet.com and Oleg has been very helpful in creating the SE-R clutch with the proper hub for the Toyota input shaft. Off on a business trip next week, but the following week I should have some pictures that I can post up for any who are interested.
While surfing the web I found this thread. I have designed and built an SR FWD to L series RWD transmission adapter. It will adapt any 4 or 5 speed tranmission used behind a Datsun/Nissan L16, L18. L20B, L24, L26 or L28 engine to a FWD SR engine.
I offered these as a group buy and have a couple still available at $295 each.
Chris - Thanks again for your help. As I look back over the thread I see that it has been more than a year since you sent me the bellhousing. My how time flies when you're having fun. If you notice in the pictures, the white B13 in the background is the tube-frame racer that this is going in.
