Hi Guys,
I'm currently in the process of rebuilding a Nissan 720 ute, with the S14 engine from a 1998 200SX. I've converted the wiring harness from the 200sx to suit the 720, and am in the process of rebuilding all of dash with aftermarket (Auto Meter & VDO) gauges. I have noticed from the wiring diagrams which I have, that the standard speedo has inputs from the speed sensor, but also has an output to the ECM.

Can anyone tell me the consequences of not wiring back to the ECM from the speedo. The VDO speedo obviously doesn't have the connection for that. Will it affect things like the mixture/pollution control, etc.

What I see on my car is that the ECU holds the rpm higher when the car is rolling in gear. My car has a cable (mechanical) connection form the speedo to the gearbox. And I had problems with that cable so the speedo was jumping from 0 - 120mph when driving on the highway and there was nothing fellable in the way the car was running.
