You guys, I have tried and tried to get the drivers side axle out of my 5 speed for 2 DAYS!!!! I have got it to move like---2 inches!! Im seriously getting pissed-- I have pryed and pulled and everything else you can think of!! It is a 5 speed out of a 92 nx2000.
Does anyone know any tricks or know of a way other then prying with a 4 foot ( WHICH IVE BEEN DOING BY THE WAY!!!) crowbar to get it out?!?!?!
The new clutch is in and all I have to do is replace the friggin axel seal!!! Im going mad...someone please help!!!
Yeah, Im sure LOL I have been at it for a while now- I had a 2 inch open end in there hitting it with a sledge hammer and it maybe moved .0000001 inches. I thought you guys may have some tips...when I had an nx with a ga16 this seemed to be a little easier...next time I switch out the clutch I will just leave the damned thing in!!! I ruined the seal, so atleast it will have a new one when it goes back in- I might as well do the other side too.
You have to take it out on the wheel side first. Then take the axle with both hands and press it into the gearbox and now pull it out in a rush. This is the way I do it and it works.

I have the tranny out b/c I was changing the clutch....so I have been prying on this thing like crazy in my garage....I had a 2 inch open end on it last night beating it with a hammer......I read that some guys on sr20.com had kept pushing it back in and then pulling it out like you said, and they had gotten it out, but Im afraid of tearing the boot on the axle. Maybe I will give it a shot tonight--- Ill tell you what, when I get this seal done--- the next time I do the clutch I will be leaving the axle in....I need to do the seal now b/c it is screwed up from goofing around with the stupid axle....this seemed so much easier on the nx16000 I had
Chances are the snap ring is just expanded a little and isn't allowing you to get the axle out the last bit there. You'll have to keep doing what you've been doing(trying to pry it out) but yanking that axle out might work. Just make sure your clamps are on good and tight because if they aren't and you separate your axle cup then you'll have nasty axle boot grease all over.

If you are trying to get faster on a track you will go off course. The question is where, and how bad..............
Last night I was so pissed that this thing wouldnt come out that I hooked it up to my engine hoist and stood on it. I hope I didnt fook anything doing that. I did try to push it back in and out last night, but it didnt seem to do anything. I will get back at it tonight-- Im so mad that Im stuck on this stupid axle-- I couldve been out doing smoky 2 wheel burnouts and smoking civics at the track for two days now!!!
next time just leave the drive axel in, i always do. I only pull off the passenger side axel because i have to unbolt the carrier shaft bracket from the tranny and all that junk on my se-r. I have to pull my tranny again because i think my TOB is bad but im hoping its just the cable though i know it my heart its not and im gonna leave my drive axel in again as it helped me align the tranny for re-assembly last time i changed my clutch
Try rotating the axle and then pull, keeping the axle straight or perpetual to the trans axle hole. That worked for me.
^Same here.
If you got one side off already try sticking a large screwdriver in the hole to pop out the other axle. I heard it can be done this way just be sure you're tapping on the drive shaft and not some internal transmission parts.
Honestly, it sounds more like something is stuck than anything. Axles shouldn't be that hard to remove, especially since you have the transmission out of the car!
^^^^ Be carefull when doing that. There's a bar right in the middle of the diff between the axles inside the casing. you might not be able to get around it safely without damaging it.

heres a bit of humor for you guys.... I have a nice corporate job and am usually a well mannered upstanding citizen type, but this FOOKING TRANNY has put me back in the stoneage!!!! I still havent gotten it out!!
SO TONIGHT, I GOT HOME FROM WORK- WENT AND CHANGED MY CLOTHES AND HOOKED IT UP TO A TREE IN MY FRONT YARD!! THEN I HOOKED IT UP TO 15 PSI WORTH OF MY Z31 AND PULLED!!!!!!!!
Im about broken at this point.................it STILL did not budge!!!!!!!!!!! I dont know what to do. I ordered a new seal....Im going to cut a slit in it and slide it back into the tranny. I will gunk it with red hi temp sealent ( if you have a suggestion of another kind then let me know!!!) I already have the seal out-- thats why this whole thing!!! I have half a mind to cut it apart- take th case apart and beat it out-- maybe after I move.. I picked this car up for 300 bucks and Im not putting that much into it. OMG....what a bunch of crap!
Those are drastic measures. I'd take a prybar or long screwdriver wedge it between the axle and the trans (make sure it's leaning on something that won't break/crack) and give it a sharp hit with a mallet. Pops it out everytime for me.
In all of this pulling, and prying...have you tried to put it back in all the way and have a second try at removing it? I know some of you are giving me a confused look right now...but I am completely serious! If something got jammed up in the splines/clip...jamming it harder won't help matters! Fully re-insert the axle...and try to pop it out again.
