What would cause
no.1 rod to come through the block behind the compressor
going/bad oil pump?

Low oil-level is another one you could put on the list of probable causes.

Totally agree here. Lack of lubrication normally leads to rod bearing failure which has a tendency to ventilate the block.

Stress cracked piston rods. Stress fractured piston rod studs. Nuts coming off the piston rod end cap studs. crummy oil. not enough oil.

block was in good shape, worked for like 2wk with some pressure
oil was fresh and level sufficient
i am think just normal wear and tear

then maintenence wasn't good, because a piston doesn't normally come out the block. There is a reason this stuff happens.

i damaged my old block and bought a used one
we cleaned it up and installed
the piston walls was smooth, no ridges were felt with your nail tip
pistom top dusted clean meaning little or no oil was being blown through the rings so it appeared to be good

Dented sump? It can restrict oil pickup.
