I've had my 91 SE-R for about 6 months and came here to the boards a few times to browse. Well I blew a main bearing, or piston on my motor. It went from clicking to clacking to banging all in one day.
So I've been browsing for a rebuilt and here of these JDM engines. Now I may be opening a can of worns here ('specially since I'm the 'new guy'), but are these engines still 30-40K? Or has things changed in Japan?
And then... The stupid questions keep coming out... Where's the best/cheapest place to buy one? I'm in Washington State, so trucking one from L.A. (or anywhere is possible) but changes the costs...
Thanks! I tried them already and they referred me to the same company in California. The price is ok ($350.00), but is the quality what they say it is?
They're offering a 180-day warranty. Nothing to complain about, huh?

I've got about a dozen or so motors from them and they all have been fine.

I'm just a monkey. I don't know shit.
In the white SE-R when the AMG benz did the ricer fly by on 408 :)
Another company I have had good luck with is CNS Motors in California... Got a low mileage (30-40kish) 95-99 sr20de engine for $610 shipped, they also sell the older model sr20de for like $400 shipped I believe. http://www.cnsmotors.com/
I'll give this company CNS a try later in the day. I've I could get it here to Washington for that price, I think I'll go in that direction.
I've got a few trucking companiesd that I personally deal with, so if they could arrange for a will call, I'll be even better set.
Thanks for the assistance. I'll see about getting this taken care of within the next month or two. I can't be driving my 4WD all around town. I need my 'daily driver' back and on the road!
This does help me out a bit... but still over my budget. The wife is suffering just to give me $500.00 from income tax.
We Turbo Tax'd it, and are anxiously awaiting the automatic deposit.
Once the money is 'in the bank', then the true calls go out. (Nothing worst then trying to 'lowball' a company, or battle for the lowest price, but have no money in hand).
I've got to spent a lot of time to find locally. I mentioned before that I had found one in L.A., but shipping here needs to be added to that total. If I can find a JDM motor here in Washington State, I’ll avoid freight charges, and have a better chance with warranty, if necessary.
The next few weeks are getting crucial, because then the labor starts.
