Alternator Removal

My alternator died last weekend, and I decided that I'd overhual the whole car, clean out all the valves, radeator, detail the whole thing, change cables, pipes, etc.

So now I'm to the actual removing of the alternator , and having a real problem figuring out where all the key bolts to losen the belt / remove it are. If anyone could maybe point it out on a picture or something like that I'd reallly appreshiate it.

I drive a 98 SE Sentra (sr)

Thanks = p

Okay, here after some delay I figured out where the bolts were. Now my problem is trying to figure out just how the heck to get them un-tightened. The distance between the bolt and that metal peice of the frame is extreamly small even though it doesn't look it in the picture, way too small to fit any normal socket wernch and a normal wernch won't fit it because there is something in the way that won't let it position itself fit.

So it would basically require an offset wernch somewhat like this (which I have, but of course it's 14mm) :

Is this the case? Because it didn't mention anything about it on SR.net and I imagine I'm just an idiot, but.. maybe not?

Here is a picture of the bolts :

if i remember correctly i just used a regular closed wrench i think it was a 17 but it was waaay 2 tight so i did that little trick with connecting another bigger wrench for more leverage, after that it was just the adjuster bolts up top.

only loosen the shorter bolt on top a little bit or as u un screw the longer (adjuster) one it will twist and break. If it still doesnt move use a pry bar , if that doesnt work then something is still to tight

and if u think your having a hard time i have a gti-r engine and i cant get that bolt out because it will it the turbo so i have to take the whooole bracket off on top, loosen the one bolt on the bottom then take the alternater mount off the block still connected to the alternator itself because the basterd bolt doesnt have enough room

good luck and be happy

ooo that little trick, if u need more leverage off your wrench when your using the closed end ont he nut that leaves the open end to grasp. if u cant brake the nut loose u take another wrench and kind of hook the closed end of that wrench onto the open end of the wrench u were using to begin with. It can slip off and u can end up pinching your finger orrrr punching something when u slip but its quick and effective when u do it right.

changin the Alt isn't to tough. Just remove the coolant overflow tank and you'll have decent access. I guess I don't have the wheel-well engine shield in place either.

Just loosen the two bolts from the top side (adjuster bracket and ajuster bolt) and then loosen the lower pivot.
I guess you'd remove the lower bolt and uppoer bracket bolt since you'r taking the part out of the car. you should only need a few wrenches.

perhaps the b14 is set up differently, but on the b13 you dont necesarily have decent access once you move the overflow tank. it is a VERY tight fit and the alty will only come out if you do some precise and rather artistic maneuvers...took me about and hour to figure the 'dance' out, lol
