Cool blown motor

I just blew a rod on my jdm sr20. The oil light came on a couple days ago but the motor was fine in oil. Now there is e hole in the front of the block. I think my oil pump went out. Any suggestions?

Definetly get another block. Look at the crankshaft rod journal for damage where the rod blew, might need the crankshaft turned & balanced. Plastigauge the rod & main bearings if you re-use them. New pistons & rods would be a plus.

Edit- Whole used engine replacement would be easier.

Just call Soko or Soken. A complete longblock is cheap enough.

I realize there are a bunch of younger folks on this forum that may not understand why these lights come on or why they're often called "idiot lights" Not calling kaotekXe an idiot just passing along some info that might help someone else save themselves from going through the same thing. Usually the oil light comes on when there is a lack of pressure and quite often this is caused by a dangerously low oil level but that doesn't mean just because your oil is full you're ok to drive. You can have all the oil in the world in a motor and if it's not under pressure or being fed through the motor then it does you no good. Also most factory oil lights are set to come on at such low pressures that you're already doing some damage by the time it flashes on. With all the crap that people are putting on their cars it still amazes me how few of them bother with a mechanical (not electric) oil pressure gauge. After all they're easy to install, cheap and look really "kewl" not to mention they might just save your engine's life someday.

its a engine, motors are electric and he "blew" it because of lack of oil pressure. No oil pressure means lots of friction, means engine go boom

Just to add to this, the "idiot" oil light only comes on when oil pressure is seriously only about 2 psi or so. I think that damage is already being done at this point, it's just a matter of when. Sr20's especially hate to be oil starved.
