Battery Acid problems

I did the stupidest thing and put too much water in the battery which cause the battery to leak and have major acid build up! I was using the wire brush at least once a week to clean up the acid..Finally figured out the problem and took some of the water out and took the battery out to clean up the mess caused by the acid. After a week the battery looks good and no acid build up but I noticed that some of the metal is starting to be rotted away. The battery holder is in worst shape than last week and the hole has gotten larger when the screws go to hold the battery in place.

I thought I did a great clean up job and wiped every off, but apparently not as I see more damage being cause around the battery. The battery is still clean itself and no acid build up. What should I do? Buy a new battery? Take out the battery and reclean everything?

Thanks

You'd better get some wicked cleaner on that. Your going to have major rust issues. The battery will be fine. The battery's plastic case is designed to resist battery acid corrosion, your car isn't. I'd take everything out and clean the crap out of the metal. Scrub it with something that is a strong base.(acids & bases) Once your done you'll most likley have to repain the section or you'll start to have severe rust issues if your in a snow belt.

Check everywhere that the acid could have gone. inside your frame rails and all. The most damage will be in a place you can't see.
