Oversize piston idea

to all lovers of sr20

Im a big fan n love this sr20. the problem is should i oversize its piston a little bit bigger for new piston. pls advise n wat power may i get? will they be problems if i oversize the piston?

That depends, how big "oversize" are we talking about? unless you sleeve the block, and go with a way bigger piston, you really won't gain that much horsepower over stock. If you use the bigbore sleeve and piston kit from jwt or similar(90mm instead of the stock 86mm) that would bump your engine up to about a 2.2L...yay sr22 ! There are also a few stroker kits out there for the sr20(way overpriced). But Unless you have quite a few other mods (cams, ported head, stronger rods, etc) the horsepower you would gain by adding this small amount of displacement, is not worth the money! To do the 90mm bigbore kit I think it works out to around $1100 with machine work...might be more/less depending on where you live, but thats about what it costs here! However, if you are just going to use an 86.5mm piston and get the cylinder bored out you will be fine!

The common overbore is 89mm. larger than that and boost has not proven a great recipe....
