Auto tranny?

Hey guys, I've got a 1993 Sentra XE 5-speed. I have an sr20de I want to swap in, but I don't have a tranny yet. I saw an auto tranny for sale from a '98 200sx,will this work in my car? If so is it worth even bothering with the auto, or should I hold out for a manual? Does anyone here drive an auto? If so how bad is it?

I saw JGY has some manual trannys, but they're $420, I'm hoping to spend a little less than that (if I can).

Id keep looking for a manual, but you also have to make sure its a SR20 tranny, not just any 200SX tranny.

you have to be careful with the older sr20 trannies. They have a tendency for 4th and 5th gear pop out. Cal jgy and see if they ones with that problem fixed. It could be why thye have it for more money

If you're putting an SR20 in, make sure the tranny is for an SR motor. Also, go with the manual. Autos are not much fun, and the later ones didn't have the pop-out problems. If you can get one with LSD that'd be even better. Also, $420 for a tranny isn't bad for a decent tranny, considering what the cost to have it rebuilt.

Yeah, I agree that manuals are more fun, that pop-out problem is half my worry. I wish that $420 was for the LSD tranny, unfortunatly JGY LSDs are $780 (ouch). But I'll keep my eyes pealed for a good deal.

I believe 95 and on don't have the 5th gear pop out problem near as bad. So your 95 should be all good

It can still happen. Just because it is 95 and newer doesn't guarantee anything.

personally if you are looking to make some good numbers, i would look for a newer g20 tranny (00-02) as they are stronger and more reliable
