Question on 98 200SX SE-R

My girlfriend has a 98 200SX SE-R all stock except the cat is gone and has in air intake filter. What are some good mods for this car, this thing runs strong already and beats up alot of cars.

How much money you got?

If I could have the choice concerning the basic, power related, non-extreme mods. I would use the following setup:

Hotshot CAI
Hotshot Headers
GReddy CAT back exhaust
High flow CAT
UR pullies
Timing at 17'
-----------------
~$1500

There are a whole lot of other options but things start to become more difficult. Additionally, this only lists engine/exhaust mods., this is not even mentioning suspension, brakes, cosmetics, etc. Good luck.

d00d put the Cat back on, you are just poluting the environment
also if she get's a header, 91 intake cam, exhaust and CAI, she will give you a run for your money in that SVT focus.

Ask me how i know

Polluting the enviorment? Yes, but more horsepower? Hell yeah! We used to have a header on her car with a full exhaust (no cat) we ran a 14.9 at Pomona, CA with just simple mods, this car fucking boogies, we sold the header and now the stock one is back on, my SVT is barely faster than her car, but I'm sure with the header back on and a 91 CAM, she'll take my SVT out. Anyone live in Southern California area?

taking the cat off is stupid. your single car is causing as much polution as a 100 others. And I really doubt it is that big of a difference in power.
What am i saying? Aparently, you live in California.
I have to agree with Maynard from Tool:

"Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay."

Well maybe not that extreme. But you should put it back on. I hear California is smoggy enough as it is.

I will say put the CAT back on and take it to a dyno and dyno before and after. you will see that you may pick up 1hp at most 2hp, it's not worth being illegal.

14.9 is a good time, get that 91 cam and header back on get her a good suspension so your svt doesn't leave her in the
TWiStieS y0!!!!

A great mod is to put the cat back on. You are not getting any worthy HP or torque gains from that. Unbelievable!

Just because a Cavalier gains massive HP and torque, or a Honda gains some HP from removing the cat, everyone automatically assumes that all cars are built the same.

Removing the cat from a stock to mildly modded SR20DE will gain you nothing. You need to be pushing some serious HP to ever consider removing the cat. And then again, it would be illegal for street use anyhow. Serious HP would be around 250+ HP.

And it makes your exhaust sound like shit!

Hot Shot air filter, Hot Shot header, full exhaust (not cat), 91 cam and thats it, pulled a 14.9 at Pomona, CA and its all on tape. And for those who think the cat makes no HP difference, sorry but you guys are ignorant, the cat makes a HUGE difference, especially when your using a header, you guys have no idea how much easier your engine breathes without the cat, high rpms have no restrictions whatsoever, the cat is very restrictive and just so you guys know, the cat was only removed for the track, and car is daily driven with the cat on as of today cuz its way to loud without it and the car needs to pass smog anyways. I've been racing for more than 10 years, as I own a boosted stang, 12 second Honda CRX, my new SVT Focus and my wifes SE-R.

Um.....it's kind of been dyno proven that you only gain 1-3 hp..........

Hard to refute that.

You know......

Glad you only pulled it off for the track runs at least.

You are the ignorant one. You come onto a Nissan forum, post 9 times and try to tell us how a SR20DE works with no cat. Do some fuckin research before throwing around your 10 year racing career, your boosted Stang!, a Honda, and SVT Focus ( ). They are completely different beasts, have different effects to mods, and are not a freakin SR20DE.

IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN DYNOED TIME AND TIME AGAIN. AND IT HAS BEEN QUOTED TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

A NISSAN OEM CAT IS THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE CAT YOU WILL PROBABLY EVER FIND. It will not increase your HP to net a 14.9 1/4 mile run. THAT IS THE "SR20DE" and the other mods. Damn! You are ignorant, aren't you?

Here is some good reading: www.se-r.net

Go do some, then come back here and tell us what we already know.
