Originally posted by myoung right, through yahoo groups, which is slow and full of advertsing pop ups... I guess some people just don't like to change.
Or because it has limited visibility to discuss topics among only club members.

Yo Larry!
You know, I could create a list for you guys, which would be very fast and have no popups or ads whatsoever? We've got two fractional DS3s now, tons o bandwidth.
This is my SECOND forum post! Let's try an animated thingy now.

Holy long-time-no-speaks from Mr. Weeks. Thought you had set sail across the Great Lakes and were never heard from again!
We had a mailing list even on your old server, but no one wanted to use it. Didn't you end up just killing it anyway? Some people preferred the Yahoo Groups because of the web-based archiving, limited access, file space, etc.. I guess other regions in the SE-R world had already gone the Yahoo route and thought the rest of SERCA should do it, too. It had the online voting feature, which comes in handy once in a while.
But I'm open to all kinds of ideas. Perhaps this is something that should be presented to our next SERCA president.

Mr "There Can Be Only One,"
No, haven't sailed away. Yet.
I did kill that list, either on request or because nobody used it. I just feel sorry for people who use Yahoo, slow, ads... Mailman has web-based archiving. But no file space. Could give you FTP. :-) With Mailman you get a pretty click'n'drool web interface too, and as many owners/moderators as you like.
I should re-join SERCA, let it lapse. Uh, how was Naji as president?

That's why us smart people use Mozilla.

Different. I guess. I think he did a couple of things that most of the country didn't see, but that's what happens when someone runs for president unapposed. You get whoever wants to volunteer. He'd be viewed a better president if more visible things had changed under his watch (more sponsers, better website, better "unity" across the SE-R world...). Oh well. It seemed like a good idea a few years ago.
But the smarter ones use mutt. :-) I'm now using Firebird for a browser though.

Damn it is a pain editing in this little HTML box. No vi key bindings. Regarding unity, that's my big beef. There are now the main mailing list, umpteen regional lists hosted all over, numerous forums, everything competing. Stuff happens that I have no clue about anymore. And, I'm not interested in trying to keep up, too many places to check, I hate the web forum concept to begin with, stupid use of the web. Though now with RSS feeds, if those get standardized and supported in all major browsers, the web forum concept at least is more workable for those who have real lives and don't want to check in at some web site religiously. Wonder if this software (vbulletin) supports RSS subscriptions.
Regarding Naji, as a SERCA member, I didn't see anything whatsoever happen of interest in recent years. I'd love to re-join SERCA, but nobody has emerged to really lead the thing, after you. My interests have migrated more toward boat racing anyway, I'm more involved with my yacht club now, serving on a couple committees, so on. Oh well.

I know what you mean. I'm still an SE-R guy, but my racing has taken over when I have extra time from family stuff. I've become more active in this SCCA region, chairing events (big Divisional type ones), mentoring newbies, etc... There just isn't time/resources left for me to make a concerted effort to making SERCA survive. I follow/lurk on the outside. But that's about it.
Besides, it's do or die time for SERCA. If it's going to survive, then someone will have to step up and run with it. I have ideas of what could make it work, and I have tried to express those to potential club leaders. But I can't do it. If I came back to the forefront of SERCA I *guarantee* you it would at least breathe again, possible even thrive. But what good is that? The LarrySE-R Club of America?
Let's just hope that this new group of Club Council members can come in and get their agenda accomplished (whatever agenda that might be).

(no, not the mailing list guy. The other one)

There will be one in march and another in May. It costs about $140
