Well, last summer my 95 240sx with stock KA engine started acting up. I was driving down the road and it just shut off--no sputter or indicator lights. After I would let it sit and seemingly cool down for about an hour, it would run again and then do the same thing. It took me 2 hours to get 15 miles. Brought it home and ran a scan--knock sensor came up bad (which I heard can be thrown off by other issues) and I replaced it. Also replaced spark plugs and wires, water pump, thermostat, coolant temp sensor and got a new/used distributor thinking that it might be the sensor inside. Still nothing. I can get it to turn over and it runs for about 1 second then shuts off again. Does any body know what might be the problem.

First you need to determine if there's a fuel or ignition problem.

When the motor fails to start, see if you're getting spark at any plug; use a spare plug, laying on top of the valve cover, connected to an ignition wire.

An easy way to test the fuel pump and filter is to disconnect the fuel hose from the top of the fuel filter and insert a long length of spare hose into the top of the fuel filter with the other end draped over the fender going into a catch can placed on the ground. Now turn the ignition key to the run position but DO NOT START THE ENGINE. You should see fuel going into the can at a good rate for several seconds.
