what is the realistic cost for a sr20det swap compared to that of a turbonetics kit for my truck motor?
I have experience with dsm (360 hp 4g63 91 talon) sold becuase front wheel drive is no fun on dirt roads...and my first import 2nd gen turboII rotor melting apex seal thrashing twitchy ass rx-7 that was back in 93 before there was an aftermarket...Ive also had dodge daytona turbo, civic with b16 swap and 94 prelude with bolt ons...so wrenching and turbos dont scare me.
I have a simple vision for my 240, 260 rwhp front clip conversion(i cant get over how s-15's look). Either the ka or the sr will be turbo i just plan to run the twisties (maybe take it to run the dragon). I want a depenable not hacked up engine compartment.
what numbers can i expect from a sr20det swap compared to the claimed 260hp numbers that most aftermarket turbo kits claim?
How drivable is the sr20det? I had a friend in Houston with a 200sx 91 model i think had a SHOP in houston build and install the turbo kit and it drove like shit....gutless off the light...but on the freeway..different story.
any answers or help would be kewl

Both the SR and KA are 'spensive. I thought I could squeak out cheap with KA-T, but ended up $5 grand in before I had a streetable setup. That's also because I did more than just turbo, and went through three wiring harnesses before I got it right. It's probably possible to build my setup for $4k if you aren't an idiot; I just had to figure things out for the S14 to S13 wiring conversion.
I see advantages to both SR and KA. Similar price in the end, SR has a high powerband that the KA-T lacks, but KA-T has monster torque. Either way, it's a fun project.
SR swap kind of wins out on uniqueness, but you realistically need to build both motors to scrape 400hp. My friend blew a KA that had right around 300rwhp, and he didn't rev beyond 6. The pistons on both motors are trashable.
My advice is to set $5k for the project before you touch a wrench. The biggest problem that screws anyone doing S13 projects is hidden costs.
