speedo issue

on the 240 that I own the speedo has never been right, it sits at the maxed out peg and does not really do much till I get to highway speeds adn then starts moving backwazrds to around 95mph...I am fairly sure that I at least need a sensor as when I was replacing the clutch, I noticed a couple of wires broken under the car on the tranny, one may be the reverse lights also...nto sure yet...need speedo first...which of the sensors under there would be the one for the speedo? also are there any other things that could cause this action if that does not clear it up?

your speed sensor is toward the back of the trans and set in place by an o-ring and a 10mm bolt. So it will take a good lil tug to get it out after you take out the 10mm bolt. Watch out for trans fluid though if you do decided to take it out and check the speed sensor over. Once you find the speed sensor follow the wiring and see if there is any breaks in the wire, etc. Or it could just be that the gear on it has taken a turn for the worst some how
