i have a question about a fuel filter and a fender part that i think is missing.

I had my lower radiator hose start leaking last night so i am going to change that out tonight. But since i just bought this car about a month ago...i though i would do a tune up today. When i took off the fuel filter and dumped out the excess fuel it was incredibly dirty. It was full of little particles and brown crap, etc. This was all of course coming out of the 'wrong' end of the filter, the 'in' side. Is this normal? Should i be concerned about rust in my tank or dirt?

Also, is there supposed to be a plastic/rubbery shield underneath my fenders on the front to protect everything from dirt, etc? If i look under the fender on the passenger side i can see my windshield reservoir!! Are these 'shields' missing? Also, when it's raining water can come up and run along the underside of my doors. I don't know anyone with another 240sx that i can look at.

Okay, one more....when i replace the radiator hose tonight...is this a good time to flush out the coolant system? If so, how do i accomplish the 'quick flush' way? i just read about the full flush at 240sx.org.

Yes, if you are replacing the radiator hose, you will have to change the coolant. It will leak out as soon as you disconnect it.

I have yet to do this on my car. I have only had it for a few weeks.

Just curious, did you replace the fuel filter with one for the 300ZXTT??

hey, yeah, i know i will have to replace the coolant that i drain but isn't there a ''Simple'' flush that you can do? To flush out the entire system even enternally?

I replaced the fuel filter with the OEM stock replacement. What are the advantages of the 300ZXTT? I don't know what that really is.

Also, PreludeGuy.....is that connector that you are wondering about underneath the starter towards the back of the engine behind the motor mount?

Can you check about the missing fender parts too? Thank you

if you can see your windshield reservoir then you are missing the black plastic piece called a fender liner. should be able to pick one up cheap at a junkyard. as for the fuel filter you can change to a 300zx fuel filter which is bigger but still fits in the stock clamp. if your running a stock motor this isn't such a big deal. Oh and I believe the gunk in your filter was coming from the right place. It's purpose is to filter out your "tank garbage" before the fuel goes into your fuel rail so it doesnt clog the injectors. As for a quick flush, well I've never done it the right way but to me a quick flush is just draining the thing and then refilling it. Hope this helps some.
