Revs die out on idle....

Hi, i'm new here, but have been browsing this forum for a while and planned to sign up once i got my 240. Anyway, on with the problem.

I have a '92 240 coupe with the a rebuilt KA motor, nothing really modded. It has a system in it, but i don't think thats the whole trouble here....

I just got my 240, and the first night i had it, the revs died on me at idle when i tried starting it up. I replaced the battery and that seemed to help fix the problem, but now at idle it drops REALLY low, like 300-500 revs; i have to give it gas to keep the engine going. I also turn the AC on and that makes it idle higher.

My cousin said its most likely the fuel pump (he used to own the car) and that i should replace it. I plan on doing that, but i noticed the the connecting terminals for the battery were really nasty and corroded, so i grounded all that nasty stuff off and it didn't really solve the problem, seemed like it helped a little though.

Anyway, any thoughts or suggestions would be nice... i'm also thinking it might be something with the vacume lines... i don't know...

its normal for the AC to make your revs go up. its because when you turn it on, your engine is working more to keep the AC goin so it has to burn more fuel. i dunno if that made much sense but trust me its normal.

you should mix up some baking soda and water and pour it onto your terminals. the baking soda will eat away all the acid. then take off your connectors and put some type of grease on the terminals and connectors. this will prevent it from corroding. also theres some battery terminal paint stuff...works the same exact way.
that should fix your corrosion problem

also theres like a screw thing that you turn and it makes your idle go up or down....i dont remember where it is or what exactly it is. i would just check this first since it could be a free fix .... somebody else on here should know what im talkin about

i knew that part about the ac making it rev higher, thats why i turned on the ac, so it wouldn't slow down to 300 revs. I hope someone knows where scew is that makes your idle go up... that would be nice.

thanks for your help

the "screw thing" that hes referring to is the the idle adjust screw on the iacv or idle air control valve. its located below the intake manifold but above the starter. has three (?) terminals on it and a screw. the reason the idle comes up with the a/c on is to help the engine alleviate the load from the compressor. its not so it can burn more fuel. first off, you need to check your timing and in doing so, at a point in checking the timing, you can set the idle via that screw. this will help IACV adjustment and so will this Timing adjustment good luck.

when it says " adjust timing to 20 deg btdc" how do you adjust the timing. do you move the rotor or what?
