1992 Nissan Silvia Manual - $2,800
Shipping to US - $900
Customs - $4200 (150% of car value)
1992 Nissan 240sx Manual - $1000 (We don't need the motor, after all )
Swap doors/bumper/headlights/taillights/speedometer/glass/brakelights
(Did I miss anything?)
Title - $400 (max... I hope!)
__________________________________________________ _______________
Total - $9,300 for an actual S13 Silvia. (Which you can then put all the "proper" gear back on)
Is this right? Did I miss anything? Overprice anything?
And please, no flames about how "a swap would be cheaper" or "what a waste of money"...
Also, I would appreciate some very specific information on how-many-cars-must-be-crash-tested, what-must-be-modified, etc... (As in, official information, sites to visit, not just "personal experience")
And, oh yeah... I searched, and I researched, and the general idea I hear is, "It's not worth it"... Nobody bothers to explain WHY.

Because nobody has the information I require. That's why.
Because it's rare to have a "Real" Silvia in the US. That's why.
I like challenges. This looks like a challenge. I've done quite a bit of research on my own, but I'm approaching the proverbial "end of my rope". I'll probably never own a "real" Silvia (unless my figures are right) but if someone asks me, I want to be able to give them my informed opinion. I want to be able to state facts and actually know what I'm talking about...
And I want a "real" silvia myself. I'm hoping my numbers were right...

Well that price sounds about right. i got my 1994 JDM 180sx from autoconxion andi made my street legal in Cali lol which is harder to do than texas or were u live. I mean its a bunch of running around in dmw bullshit, but in the end its worth it. When people tell u is that a real 180sx, and u say YES proudly with a big ass smile on your face, and people give u the thumbs up when driving. Including dumb ass ricers in civics get amaze. So if u have a chance of getting one do it, but it would be cheaper doing a swap tho

Sweet. I'll probably end up doing just that then... Assuming the company stays in business long enough for me to get a decent job and get the loan required... Thanks a bunch for the heads up.
HOWEVER... I still wanna know how to do it myself. (Which, knowing that I can have someone ELSE do it for me, I'll never end up doing it myself, but...)
Like I said... If someone else asks, I wanna be able to give the right info. So... Although I truely (REALLY!) appreciate the link to that site, and the fact that another member here has dealt with them (Speaking of which, how were they?) I'd... Yeah. How to do it myself.
UGH. I should have about 24 hours more sleep before I try to post again...

Oh, billyjuan... Got a question for you... Ya never seem to respond to my PMs
You said it took ya a month of running about the DMV, right? Could you toss me any information on what they made you do? And... Were there fees associated with this "running around"? Aside from the gas prices, of course.
Bloody OPEC.

Why would you swap all these things? To meet USDM standards? If you swap all those things wouldn't you have a Silvia -> 240sx conversion? considering that you will change it back after the testing/examination, wouldnt that make it illegal again? Not be a smart ass, Im just asking...
You could ask here all you want but i doubt many will have an answer next to Billy and maybe Night because he imports cars...
But i suggest you A) Wait for Billy/Nights answer B) goto one of the emmisson ref in you city/state and see what needs to be done C) See if motorex will give you a few hints with out charging you... After you get the info can you make a write up on it? I'm sure more people will want to know...

doesn't Night7racing in Phoenix import cars? And I think it's cheaper then that. Also there are tons of companies in CA that import real Silvias here and you won't have to pay that much.

I was down at Night7's shop, to tell ya the truth i didnt think it was all that great. But he does get some pretty good import prices.
