I'm brand new to the forum, and to owning a Nissan. I used to drive a Civic Si, but I got rid of it when I joined the military. I recently bought this '89 FB and I freakin love it. But I know almost nothing about it, save that it is a 2.0L 12V SOHC. It is in great shape, and really quick, but being the way I am, I want to get started with some aftermarket upgrades. I plan on doing quite a bit with it, but it is not like a civic, and I'm curious where I should get started with my new baby. Also, where can I find some good literature on her. I was thinking I was going to start with suspension upgrades, since I need to learn about the aftermarket parts that will fit her. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Sorry I'm so new with Nissan, but I absolutley love this car. It is so fun to drive the way it is, and I want to make it even more fun.
Ok, so it is a 2.4l yeah, I misstyped that. And I understand the $ to power ratio if exhaust headers and intake don't do a tremendous amount for hp to the wheels, but considering how much I actually paid for this thing, I do have some money to play with. I plan on spending a fair amount on this car to get it running and sounding good. I need to either tighten the engine mounts, or replace them soon, because they suck, but other than that, it is in perfect shape with 150k miles on it. So once again, should I start by putting a good coil over suspension kit on it, or should I put some money into the motor? And if the motor, where should I start?
what do you want the car for? for drift, stock engine is fine. for drag, not as much needs to be spent on supenstion. there are really only two things that you can do with the engine: turbo or swap. for turbo, a rebuild is in order. swap is probably your best bet money wise.
Honestly I'll probably want it for drift. I used to race SCCA back in Salt Lake, and the scene in San Diego is pretty good. I've kinda outgrown the drag thing when I was a teen. There's a lot more skill (in my opinion) involved in negotiating a track. Anyway, if I were to swap the motor, give me some suggestions, and approx costs of motors I may want to swap to. Like I said, I know pretty much nothing about Nissan engines, except from what I've seen they can do at an autocross track at SCCA events.
there is a sticky in the general section it has loads of info on your car. also there is 2 stickies in this section as well. you got plenty to choose from if u want a swap.

well I'm not talkin like chrome or anything gay really. I'm just sayin I want to put 16's on it just for the purpose of driving in the SM class for SCCA. The added traction will help me out a bit on most of the tracks they run around here. And I don't even know if I'm really gonna use it for drifting or not yet, I'm still learning how, and I don't really think it's gonna be around forever. I have more fun just straight racing around a track going for the best time, and smoking little civic ricers. Its good stuff.
