The other day i was driving my sister home when i heard a pop and lost all power to the engine. i had it towed home the next day, but wasn’t able to get to it tell yesterday. i thought it might have been the fuel pump, but its fine. the timing was fine so no problems there. i pulled the valve cover to find the cam sprocket had come off (machine shop that built my engine, didn’t torque it down) the timing chain could not be seen. i proceeded to pull the front timing cover off to see what i had to do (hoping i only had to put the timing chain back on) to find a busted timing chain, the bolt that holds the tensioned guide broke off in my block, and what looks like a oil squirter broke off also. the other guide was broken. here are the pics
I might take legal action agenste the machine shop for this. I have had a long history of problems with this machine shop and i am not going to take any more crap from them. if any one has any ideas on action i could take, or if something similar has happened to you, your welcome to share.
Joe

If i had the money i would. i might scrap the sohc and pick up a dohc. if thats the case i will sale my JE pistons (9.0:1 cr), along with my head (3 angle valve job, JWT cam, and all new rockers/lifters) i will also sale the intake manifold thats been port mached and also has the secondary butterfly removed. i would have a under drive pulley for sale, along with pacesetter headers that are heat rape. all that have around 2.5k miles on them.

i'd go tell them you want all money back that you gave to them or you'll file a clain against them. they will most likely know that by having a clain filed against them, their reputation wil be screwed and should do something to help you out.
Well sumthing related with motorshops happen to me..i went to a shop in my town cuz my engine was making a weird sound so i took it to them and they said my engine was blown...(keep in mind this is a 96' Maxima SE with 101k on the engine) so i take it to nissan they said it was my nock sensors and my engine was fine for another 175k....crayz shops

here is a little brake down of what i have put up with for the last 1 year plus.
Blow head gasket - October 02
decided to rebuild KA - November
talked to shop about what i wanted done and dropped engine off in late November
took them over 4 month to build engine - early December to end of march 03
got engine back, they lost dampener pulley and dented oil pan - I had to buy new/used parts
got engine in car and running - April
drove car first 500 mile with little to no idle time, and stayed below 3500 rpm - changed oil - early may
started to notice rattle from front of engine - mid may
found slack in timing chain - late may
received new timing chain kit from shop - i reinstalled new timing chain kit
after rebuild and about 1k miles still had lots of noise coming from engine - early June
took to Allan at European imports to see what they could find - thought bad rockers/lifters
talked again to shop, they thought same thing, replaced all lifters with new lifters - late June
still had noise and a rattle under load - drove car little for 1 month tell mid July
took car to Nissan, engine wasn’t making oil pressure and they wanted to rebuild engine - late July
talked to machine shop, they said they would pull it apart and if they found anything that was labor or part problem they wouldn’t charge me
took engine out and back to machine shop in late September (need to clear place to pull engine
got engine back in late October/early November and installed back into car (they lost my flywheel, I had to replace it)
got car running mid November, and broke it in through December
drove car tell now with little problems, other then eats oil
last week engine dies and I have to tow it home to find this problem with the timing chain
as I see it I have put up with my fare share of crape from this company. I have nothing to show for it besides a bad engine.

Found all my recites from everything that has been done sense this all started. The parts and labor I have paid sense I got the engine back from them the first time adds up to over 1.6k. That is for parts they lost (damper pulley, oil pan, and flywheel), and new rockers/lifters they said where making the noise. Then the money I paid a import shop, and Nissan to try and fix there problem with the engine.
