90 SOHC Timing chain rubbing front of block
Friend of mine just bought a 90 240SX with the KA24E SOHC. The head and timing chain were both replaced, but as soon as the engine got warmed up, it developed a loud rattling sound.
We tried to limp the car home at a slow speed (under 2500 RPM) but it didn't quite make it. The timing chain broke.
Pulled the head off, and there is a visible mark from the chain rubbing on the front of the block, just below the head, and on the head. Also has a bent valve....
How is this possible? The cam does not have any excessive play, but the cam gear is at least 1/4" too far rearward.
