so i destroyed my clutch.

well, as the title suggests - i burnt my clutch. I was doing burnouts/drifting today, i pushed the clutch in . floored the gas, dropped the clutch... and well then i could smell it. its fucked. car accelerates slower than a wheel barrel and the revs go through the roof. This realy sucks because as mentioned in a previous post, i am getting ready to purchase suspension parts and then do an sr20det swap. Now i have to buy a clutch........ are the clutches for the KA24 motor set interchange able with those on the SR20DET? If they are then i have no problem droping some cash on a good clutch. If not.... this might change my mind - i might build up and turbo my KA instead of doing a swap. I mean if i have to drop cash into anyways i might as well go the whole way. eather way.... i have spent some time looking at clutches and im not sure what i want. Even if the clutches are not interchangeable, what clutch would you guys suggest for my KA24? i want something thats not gonna crap out on me anytime soon - but i don't want to end up with something thats a nightmare to drive on the street. I think i wanna do the fly wheel, clutch/thowout bearing all at the same time. School me? lol

Well now that the clutch is out, if you have enough money/time, you might as well work on getting the SR because of the different trans pattern.

But yeah, clutch kits can ring up from $99 all the way to around $450, so this is a hard choice...hmmm...

Clutches....Exedy, Koyo, that's all I can think of

well that sucks.... i'll buy a $300 ebay clutch kit i guess. Flywheel included as well. I was wondering something else, a friend of mine told me that if i get a lighter flywheel. witch is the case in the kit im looking at i need a different harmonic balancer to avoid the engine shaking and destroying the main bearings. Is this true? The kit im looking at is here

According to this the flywheel is 11 pounds and the stock one is 20 pounds. does this mean i need new harmonic balancer? or anything else to run it?

dont buy a ebay clutch. they blow balls. just get a oem clutch from napa or somethin, those are cheap and should last you until you do a swap.

The KA motors are internally balanced. If you look at the back side of the OEM pulley/damper, the casting is uniform meaning that the damper is a neutral balance damper. The same thing should hold true for the flywheel. Externally balanced engines typically have an extra counterweight that's cast into one side of the harmonic damper and the flywheel.

If the KAs were externally balanced, everybody that runs an Unorthodox pulley or a lightened flywheel would have severe vibration problems because the units have a neutral balance. So to answer your question, running a lightened flywheel will not alter the balance of the motor.

The KA and the SR flywheels are NOT the same.

The Ebay kit flywheel looks suspicious. It seems to have an unusually large number of lightening holes. Maybe they used an OEM flywheel and lightened it that way.

If you're planning to go SR20DET, why put out nearly $1000 for a clutch/flywheel combo that you can't use in the SR.

A good clutch for SR is "OS Giken (super single)", it's what I use. Good grab, and not bad for daily driving. I don't know where you've been looking, but if you've found full (thats good) clutch set (Disc, Plate, Fly wheel and Throw-out bearing) for under $700 please let me know where you found them. Also, make sure you change the throw-out bearing to a racing bearing, or you'll end up with your left leg stronger then the right, unless you like knowing that you won't be riding the clutch easily.
