WHAT CATBACK EXHAUSE

I just have a simple question about exhause systems. Is there a difference between name brand catback exhause systems and none name brand even though the piping is made out of stainless steel and it's 3" piping with a 4" tip?

you'll see the same results with any 3" cat back. some just look nicer, are more expensive, or sound better than the others.

I am wondering the exhaust volume of normal cars, and the exhaust volume of an aftermarket QUIET system! I was looking at the RSR Ex-Mag (I too saw one that was name brand, and one that was not, both advertised as the Quiet ones) - and simply was wondering, as a reference. They seem to cost about $500, shipped and ordered with the pipe...

Just as long as the thing does not sound like a Honda Coffee Can, which are BEYOND annoying (you know, the little CX from 1993 and 94 and 95 and stuff... hatchbacks... eeew.) - Even with my BROKE exhaust now, it sounds vaguely Porsche-like!!! Please recommend (I say an APExi Dual N1, but dont want the loud one,) and shed some light on the Volume issue, so I don't become a police officer's best friend.

a custom made piping setup with a magnaflow 40 series muffler is the best sounding exhaust ive heard on a 240. it has a mean low rumble, matches the car perfectly, IMO.

the RS*R exhaust is pretty quiet from what i've heard. if you're looking for something quiet i'd go with that.

as for the nicest sounding one, i'd have to go with the Blitz Nur Spec. sounds just like an STI, if not better.

turbo's don't need huge mufflers. it doesn't matter how big the outside of it is, the inner piping is what matters.

The difference in exhaust systems is in a few different areas of interest. First off is fitment, a cheaper exhaust may not fit quite as easily as a more expensive system.(Although this doesn't always hold true) Another area is in material, mostly they are all stainless, I can't say much for the "no-name"brands but I'd imagine that if they say it's stainless then it is. Another material used is titanium, which does not improve power necessarily but does save you some weight, but not taxation on your wallet, titanium systems generally run at about twice as much. As far as pipe size versus tip size? The pipe size is the only thing that matters, unless for some weird reason the decided to use a smaller tip diameter than pipe. Oh one more thing, when looking at an exhaust system make sure your muffler is a straight through design, they're just more efficient and make more power, also make sure its mandrel bent, comes with all gasket hardware, pay attention to how many pieces its shipped in. A general rule of thumb is that the fewer pieces the exhaust system comes with the better the fitment, which makes it a better system.

just to tell you. dont cheap out your catback... it can effect your emissions ratings and its very hard to get a swapped motor sr20 or rb series to ghost under smog/ emissions testing for road worthyness

I bought an ebay catback for my corolla for 200 bucks. I would say the quality 1-10 was an 8. It was very nice for the price, stainless steel and bolted to gether really nice. I noticed a power increase right away. all i had to do was cut a small hole in the heat shield under the car because it was a 3 piece exhaust, not 2 and the flange hit. I never had any problems. Sounded nice also.

Apex GT spec is awesome, but for turbo cars only. . . noise? They claim that their silencer drops the db level by seven. Just remember that no bolt-on see's any real gain unless the engine is tuned (i.e. set your timing after the modification)
