I just had to replace my radiator, i went to the junkyard and replaced it with one from a manual 240sx (mines auto), had a little trouble with all the plastic crap but its in, i connected the automatic transmission cooling lines to the new radiator, flushed the system but now my car is running funny. My rpms are running dangerously low, like below the 500 mark, i checked all my vacuum lines and the only thing that could be bad is i think i might have a slight crack in my line from the pcv valve to the throttle body. (its an old line) my second problem is when i'm driving the trans stays in first for far too long, and when it shifts to 2nd it shift hard. i'm going to be doing a full tune up soon, but with all the bad weather and limited access to a garage its hard. i was wondering if nebody had any insight on what i should do. oh yeah i did put about a quart of auto transmission fluid in it to compensate for what i might of lost doing the radiator swap.
are the ecu's different for auto and manual...I'm pretty sure they are...this could be a big problem because the ecu handles the engine differently with an auto..has more control

You say you replaced the automatic transmission radiator with one from a manual and connected the transmission lines to the radiator. I am assuming there were identical connections as were on the radiator that you took off? You need to check the automatic transmission fluid level to make sure it is right do not just add what you think is the right amount. Also you should have done a fluch of the junk yard radiator including the transmission fluid portion to make sure you did not introduce any junk into the systems.

i did flush the system with the new radiator in it, just not the transmission fluid part, which is probably my biggest mistake, i heard it is hard to drain and refil the transmission, i just put the fluid where i removed the dipstick. is it extremely bad to overfill the autotransfluid?
oh yeah sorry if it made like i did a big swap i only replaced the radiator and the only choice i had was to take it from a manual car which did fit all lines the same, so i didnt mess with ecu, same everything just different radiator
Here are the possibilities for the hard shifting:
- bad TPS resistance element
- bad TPS harness connection
- auto tranny dropping resistor not connected or defective
The tranny cooler portion in the radiator should always be thoroughly flushed when replacing a radiator. Any loose gunk can get into the tranny valve body and screw it up.
well, im going to flush my transmission and see if the shifting is any better, theres another weird thing though, when i used to floor my car when it was in 2nd or 3rd it'd drop a gear to accelerate faster, but now when i floor it it just stays in the same gear and the pickup is real slow.

sounds as though that radiator may not be as good as you think. It sounds as though there is something in the trans cooling portion of the radiator preventing the transmission from building adequate pressure (hence you having a hard shift). I"m not totally sure, but it may also be the cause for the rpm's dropping as well...Might I suggest saving and buying a new oem radiator from a local autoparts store.
