my MAF wiring was bad. You can pull the codes from your ECU, if you get a MAf code then its either the MAF OR the harness.
To check the harness you need a multimeter (ohmmeter) and a wiring diagram, disconnect the ECU then check for continuity between each pin on the MAF connector (just ease back the rubber boot on it so you can see the color code of the wiring) and its corresponding pinout at the ECU harness.
Even the Haynes manual probably has a procedure to check MAF function, you use a voltmeter and check the voltage variation,
course I dont have a 240 so what do I know, burt Im sure its similar.
