New problem

ok my 90 decided today was gonna be a bad day ....i went to get some food and the car drove fine however once i parked and shut it down and came back 5-10 min it would not turn over the crank was turning however it wouldnt start and smelled very sweet of gas i still can not find out why it wouldnt start....i continued to hammer the gas until if finally started ? ANyone KNOW why it wouldnt start? .....i think its a fuel problem but what part im not sure!!

Fuel filter Take it off and dump it out and see what crap comes from it...Mine was nasty I changed it twice since I bought the car in Feb both times nasty stuff coming out...Either that or maybe a coil going bad.....just some thoughts

ill look into it ...i just changed the fuel filter a few weeks ago...can i put a 300zx filter ...ive heard they are more effective however im not sure if my car would like that 2 much....i thought it could be the coil....ill check in the morning

also car shakes when its accelerating in 4th and 5th gear? why would that be?...it is a SOHC so most of the power is lower gear...

ok now anytime i give the car a little gas from a stop it wants to die and i have to slam the gas to the floor to prevent it from dying...maybe its just time to get an sr20det

So far you have had....
1. HArd starting with a sweet smell (sweet is usually antifreeze)
2. Loss of power on the upper gears...
3. car almost(?)dies when under a little acceleration

Do this first...this will eliminate engine from drive train
If you push in the clutch does the engine smooth out???
If engine smooths look at a carrier bearing or motor mounts for this.


As for the dying at the light under light acceleration sounds odd...How does the oil look???? Does it look milky???? Most of what you described minus the no white smoke sounds like a head gasket going. If all these problems still are happening?

IF not...Look towards your emissions...your EGR if bad would cause Exhaust gas to be put back into the intake causing it to die or stumble under little acceleration. Also could cause the hard starting since any expelled fuel vapors would go right back into the intake although this is not too common. But the stumbling on take off is very common for an EGR.
If none of these pan out do an all out electrical plug check and a compression check. Good luck

ill need the luck ....ok car now doesnt start...its not the coil....i am about to replace head gasket ect...also emissions stuff is gone however i left the egr ....but its just sitting there no vaccums are attached i will probably take it off this time!!~...

MAF sensor. I bet it's the MAF, check the wires to see if they got burned or chopped. If not, you may want to try to hunt down another sensor.

Perform an ECU code readout to see if any fault codes are set.

check the intake up to the manifold. my car had the same problem and i found a bunch of like sludge stuff in the intake manifold and pipe. just clean it out and your good to go!!!

Scratch that last post..... my Engine is blown. i need a complete new one. Any one got any good deals on an SR20DET let me know!!!!!!!!
