Hey guys, really need help on this from the nissan guys. Working on a buddy's 91 240 (ka24det), and i can't get the damn clutch to come back up. The pedal sank to the floor one day while he was driving (that's what he told me), and since that day he hasn't been able to drive it since he can't change gears.
So far the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and the clutch damper were all changed and the clutch itself was changed (it was really worn out anyways). Now the problem is after bleeding the damn system out over and over, the pedal still doesn't come back up. We've managed to get a little bit of pressure in there but it still sinks down. Spent the last two days trying to get any air out of the system. I've done clutches plenty times before but never had this kind of a problem. If there's something really simple i'm missing or stupid i'm doing let me know.
Checked all the hardlines as well and none of them seem to be leaking.
I'm not a nissan specialist, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
First of all, the master cylinder should be bench bled before installation. To make things a lot easier, eliminate the piping connector; the piping connector is a real pain to bleed; that's probably where there's still air remaining.
The master cylinder was bled, on the bench prior to installation. It was the adjustment in the pedal itself that was screwing everything up. We assumed that the distance the pedal was bolted on the shaft going to the master cylinder wouldn't change, but since it was an aftermarket unit there would obviously be a difference. Spent 5 mins under the dash adjusting the pedal connection to the master cylinder and the problem was gone. What kept confusing me was that even tho we bled the whole system of all the air that the pedal still didn't come back up. Thanks for your help tho. Really appreciated it.
i had the same problem with my 240 about a month or two ago. it ended up being the slave cylinder was bad, but from the sound of it, you guys have solved everything already. i talked to a big nissan mechanic that i know and he told me that master and slave cylinders are a big problem on the 240. at the same time i was having this problem, his girlfriends 240 was doing the same thing. crazyness.

Yeah, if you can try to eliminate the damper system. I had to replace my master cylinder some time ago and not having that thing made bleeding so much easier.

That box holds a rediculous amount of air. 240sxmotoring.com has a stainless steel line for the clutch (it's not the nismo one for the slave cylinder) this one comes from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder. I'd get one of those. I'm ordering mine tomorrow.
