But... electronic boost controllers are better at compensating for boost fail by altering the amount of boost that is gated. If the boost starts to drop they just bleed less pressure to help keep the turbo spooling. "Dumb" bleed valves cant do this.
You must also consider the efficency of the turbo. The factory T25G on an SR for example drops off boost over about 5000 RPM
