There are different styles of drifting. There are tons of different techniques you can use to get your car to drift. In short, drifting is simply sliding the rear end of your car to change the angle that your car exits a turn. It started with Japanese Mountain racers who found that, by sliding the rear end of the car, they could get a better angle out of the turn, and hence be able to take the turn faster. Here in America, it has been glamorized to be simply sliding your car completely sideways and exiting the turn smoothly.
The technique that I prefer over most is called the power over. Which is, taking the beggining of the turn as you normally would and then mashing the throttle as soon as you hit the apex, which causes the rear wheels to spin and lose traction. This allows you to obtain a higher speed when exiting the turn. You can also use the handbrake (or e-brake) to lock up the rear wheels, while cutting the steering wheels to the respective direction of the turn. This causes the car to start into a skid. As soon as the car starts to break loose, release the e-brake and feather the throttle to keep a steady drift angle, while countersteering to maintain control of the car. Just after the apex of the turn, start straightening the car back out. As the car begins to straighten, step on the gas, while still keeping the rear wheels spinning freely, and straighten the car completely coming out of the end of the turn.
Those are just a couple different techniques you can use to drift. I highly recommend a DVD called the Drift Bible. It shows you all sorts of different techniques and technicals about drifting. Very educational. Hope that helps. Happy Drifting.

Your drifting style is all based on your experience. Most started out by yanking the e-brake or popping the clutch. I actually started out by doing a shift lock(down shifting at a corner). Ive progressed a bit. Right now, my biggest used techniques are weight shifting techniques. Once I can afford a good LSD, Ill be able to link the corners alot smother than I am right now.
Also, another way to get better at drifting is to attend events. Dont worry about making a fool out of yourself, thats what your there for, to learn. Just keep the crap off the streets, I heard about a 16 year old kid getting killed because he was "drifting" his 240 and got side swiped by a dually dodge.
