Question Local Performance Question

I was wondering what you guys were running as far as your intake goes. I was talking to a friend of mine and here in the NW it seems like a CAI could be a little risky with all the rain we get. I know AEM sells that bypass valve for their intakes.

Now I realize that's the solution, but this question is coming from a guy who is financially only able to dream of turbo or any other major modifications. Shoot if I could afford that, I'd be looking for a 91 BMW E30 M3 (that was the boxy one with the 2.3 4-banger and that cranked out 190hp). Okay, back from my tangent.

I liked the price of the HotShot CAI. I haven't seen a price on the AEM CAI though. I was watching that Hi-Rev Tunerz show on Speed Channel and they were putting an AEM cold air intake on a Focus ZX5 and it was like $450!!! Are they really that much, because the HotShot intake is only $215 according to the website.

Let me know guys! Thanks for all your help so far!

Injen also sells intakes for your car. Very high quality, with good performance gains. They have the WAI and the CAI.

Personally I use a WAI because I got a really good deal on it. I'm considering purchasing the Injen extention to slap on the end of my Weapon-R - I'm willing to bet it'll fit reasonably well. I wouldn't be too worried about rain if you go for a CAI. The filter would have to be completely submerged to suck in any water, which means you'd have to drive in a two-foot-deep puddle to suck in any water. If you're really worried about accidentally driving into a lake or something, you can modify any CAI to fit the AEM bypass valve with a little grinding. Ultimately I would go for the PR CAI, modified to fit the AEM bypass.

I have been running a cold air intake on my lude for a while now without any problems... and there are a few people I know that have CAI on the B13 and B14s without any problems what so ever! Its more a matter of avoiding deep puddles!!!
