CAI's & WAI's Legal in Washington?

I had a random thought and I figured this would be the best place to go. This may sound stupid but I was watching some show on MTV about "Street Racers" and I think it was based in LA. They had a section on the legality of the modifications done on the cars and it made me think.

Have you guys ever been pulled over for your mods? Be it ride height, noise, etc...

I know the catalogs always say that you should check your local laws regarding intake and exhaust upgrades (among other things).

I'm not worried about getting pulled over for mods, I won't be that blatant. But what I was thinking was emissions tests and things like that. On my 82 BMW 320i I had removed a piece of the intake piping. The lady at the emissions test facility on Pac Highway in Des Moines freaked and told me I HAD to have that on there. Of course, my SE-R to be probably won't fail emissions like my Bimmer does!

Thanks in advance...
Carlos

I got through DEQ in Oregon with my WAI. The reason people in California get busted is because most engine mods don't have a CARB exemption, so they're illegal. However, since there's no CARB up here, you'll be fine.

I have been pulled over for mods, however. My clear sidemarkers got me once. I also failed the noise section of emissions, but that was only because the guy at DEQ didn't know how to test the dB level. On my second try I passed with flying colors.

That's weird samo. Why would you get pulled over for clear side markers, when most cars come with them now?

I remember getting pulled over for my neon license plate back in high school. That was only 7 years ago, but I can still laugh. At myself. Purple neon plate frame on an 85 Blazer. Woo hoo I was da 'ish'!!

I forgot about Cali's smog laws. That makes more sense.

Thanks!

Well, my hometown is extremely small, and the cops have nothing to do, so they pull teenagers over for extremely minor offenses. I've had a few run-ins with them...

I used to want a red neon plate frame... man, I was such a freaking ricer ...

Utah law says that if you change your exhaust in any way shape or form from the stock configuration its illegal. Utah laws are so gray that it makes the cops totally impowered.

Cops in Utah use tint/exhaust/etc. as a way to find more. i.e. alcohol/drugs. Utah is easy to work around. If you drive a honda and have any mods that stand out, then be ready to be pulled over. The nicer the car, the less likely you are to get got!!

I was pulled over 3 times in the first month that I tinted my wife's Tercel. Never have had a problem with my '02 or my '03 Alty.

And i guy i work with had 5% in his tacoma 4x4 and 5% on his Etreme (had 20's) and now he has 5% tint on his black 1.8 jetta with black leather interor and has never been pulled over for that reason. and each car was newer and looked clean
