I bought a used SE-R 2003 with 32 000 km 2 months ago and i noticed a sound from the engine like a light rattle as if it has been always pushed to the limit by its earlier owner. What could be the cause of that sound? The fuel? (89 octan) The valve not adjusted right? The valve are dead? The engine is used up? Please help for a desperate girl who has doubt about her acquisition....
if the car wasnt broken in properly you are screwed...it is VERY picky about the break in. and using premium gas is a better idea too, especially in summer.
I remember hearing somehwhere that the QR25 rocker arms or valves are simply louder than most engines. If your not burning any oil, I would think you're fine.
First of all the car requires 91+ octaine gas, so you could be getting detonation if your only using 89.
As for the sound, if its a knock then detonation is likly the casue. If its a tick, that is the valves which are quite loud on the QR.
Check your oil, and monitor it for consumption. A good QR has very little consumption. Also check to make sure all the recalls have been done (any Nissan dealer can tell you the status of the recalls).
