Fuel Injector Service

Hey,

Just checking that Nissan Maintenance Schedule thing, and it says that at 20,000 miles to undergo "fuel injector service." It also has an asterisk that it recommends this primarily for southern Californian drivers. But I have no idea what that entails.

Can you do it yourself, and if so, how? Can the Nissan dealership only perform this service, or can any mechanic do it? Does it make a difference, and how do you know they're dirty?

More stupid questions from the newbie. Hope y'all don't mind...

basically, run about 4 bottles of fuel injector cleaner in your tank.... and you'd do the equivelent.

As a Nis tech, I personally reccomend doing this at least once a year. Especially with gas prices, b/c people run crap gas b/c ist cheaper....

If you plan on keeping your car for more than 60k, do it.... I just did a 1991 300zx and you dont want to know his bill for replacing injectors was. (granted they have 2 more injectors, and they are located under teh plenium... but you get the idea)

um, actually, fuel injector cleaner is BAD for our stock ceramic injectors.

Don't use it.

the manual recommends against it as well.

Yup, the ones offered by Nissan dealerships and the Redline FI cleaner. Those two are safe for our cars.
