hey was up. i have a 2002 spec V. my engine went and it ended up being a factory recall, so i got a whole new power plant. i now have about 10 000 km on it and my piston has started to hit the spark plug. just wundering if anyone else has had any simular problems, and what is being done with it. my dealership is full of abunch of monkeys, they say they are going to fix it by putting in a shorter spark plug. What should i do?
I don't think a spark plug can start hitting, it either does or doesn't and if the dealership put in the wrong ones ther're retarded. seems if the piston hit the spark plug you'd have problems in those cylinders.

ya they are hitting. the gap in the plug getts closed off and u can see the mark on the piston. this happened after 10 000 km on the original plug. then the dealer made sure that they put in the right ones. then it happend again. so now they say they are trying to find a shorter plug.
Oh My God! I just had the same problem. I accelerated fast onto the highway and all of a sudden the car started to hesitate. When I got home, I checked the spark plugs and the furthest left and the furthest right was smashed in so that they could not fire. The gap was non-existent. I took some pliers and opened up the gap and continued to drive the next day, but the check engine light came on and it was still hesitating. I removed the sparkplugs again and only the furthest left one bent back, so I un-bent it and the car went fine, but it would still occasionally hesitate. I tried to get some new sparkplugs but they are about 20 bucks a piece for the originally installed ones. I ended up getting some Iridium’s which were not only much cheaper, but are supposed to be much better too. The car runs fine now, but it seems to have lost some power beyond the 4500 RPM mark. Anyone have any ideas how this whole bent plug thing could have happened? I have 45,000 miles on the car. It’s a 03 Spec V.
Well thats the thing. I knew I had a recall to get fixed so I brought it to the dealer and told them the whole story and had the recall done, but the check engine light had turned off right as I was heading to the dealership, so all they said was that it seemed fine. I doubt they did any real checking of it. If it happens again I will complain and bring it back. They also said that it was gonna cost 150.00 if I wanted them to put in new sparkplugs. I was all set with that.

Even when the MIL light goes out, the ECU stores the fault code. I think you should find another dealer.
Man, I guess rule #1 is Never Trust your Dealer farther than you can throw them. The funny thing is I thought Nissan was above all this until I bought one. Now I look at Honda's and think "Man I bet that thing has a smooth tranny in it, I WANT 1" Does Nissan not realize that they are only hurting themselves by not fixing all these problems we are having?? Im starting to think a Ford built Mazda might have been the way to go, and that scares me!!

Dealers do not work for the automobile manufacturer. They market their products. Every make of car has a mixed bag of dealers. If you have trouble with a dealer you can contact the auto manufacturer customer service department and complain. Also, manufacturer representatives visit each dealership regularly. You can ask the manager of the dealership to let you know when the rep will be there and speak directly to him.
If ther are enough complaints, a dealer can lose his franchise.

I used to think that dealers blowing off problems would hurt the company in the long run, but I'm not so sure now. Mitsubishi has been treating owners like crap for a long time now. There are always plenty of new owners who don't know better. They always have a new generation of buyers. It doesn't matter if I or even you never buy another Nissan again because of the problems we have with the Spec V. There will be 20 buyers to replace us.
A lot of imports from all countries seem to be having quality issues while domestic car quality seems to be going up. I think in the long run, American car makers will get some of the market back that they lost to other car makers. I myself am in the Market for a 94 Mustang Cobra. Before you call it a rustang or POS a buddy of mine has a 89 LX 5.0 and to my surprize it starts every time and doesn't cause him any problems. He beats the crap out of it too. I've even taken my turn making tracks in it.
