Not just the tranny. I've had my car at the dealer over 10 times now. It's getting old and I'm not amused.
A few cosmetic things needed to be fixed. The plastic molding under the door came loose on me and they had to send the car to the body shop (they tried to get out of covering it). I made them lign up the engine hood and trunk hood better for me (they looked like crap). The AC magicly stays ice cold minuets after I turn the AC off(no known problem). I forget everything now, but it's been a mess. I've been to 3 dealers and I'm not happy with either of them. I'm sure the state I live in has something to do with that though. I will never buy a car in this state again. I'll drive to Indiana so I can be protected by real lemon laws. The dealers here know the car pretty much needs to blow up in my face for there to be a real problem. So I have to fight on everything and even then, dealers try to tell me that it is not covered under the bumper to bumper waranty. My muffler started rusting already too. The dealer told me that was not covered. It is as much the car as it is the service that I get. Also, I drove a used NA 300ZX awhile back with 75K miles on it, and quality on that car is sooooo much nicer then a Spec V. I'm just overall upset that Nissan let quality fall. They have such a awsome past. Now they just joined VW and Audi and pushed cars to Mexico and they leave the factory with too many problems.
ya man ur right. ive had my share of problems too, but i think its just that its the first of its kind. it takes time to work out all the bugs. i still think they should have done more testing then they did. ive already had a new motor, and my new one is having problems after only 10 000 km. or i guess where ur from probably about 6000 miles (i think). but ya my piston is hitting the spark plug, my dealer says that they've used the correct plug, but its still happenening. thats the whole reason that i want to start with pistons and crankshaft, eh. the car is just way better than any car in its leauge. it out handels all the cars, evo, sti, shitty ass neons, neons dont deserve to be fast. i dont give a rats ass about going in a straight line. thats pussy racing, thats not even racing, thats lets see who has more HP basicly. racing is around corners, on the track is where the spec v shines, and the skid pad. i come from a small city, but i see more phat cars here than i have in any big city, and i have not lost to any car when it comes to corners.

Hell yeah man. If you're dropping that kind of cash why not just go supercharger? It may actually end up costing you less in the long run, no intercooler... blah blah blah... no lag... =)

Maybe so, but I've been in to cars for awhile now. I tried to give the advise that the Spec V is not a good platform for a supper car. That advise can be taken or shitcaned, I really don't care, but I don't think I would be doing any good by encuraging without noting that it WILL be a very large project.
Skylines Little Bro, unless you have your own engine lift and take out the engine yourself, and do all the work other then maybe the engine build up, your wallet is going to be hurting big time. Even if you can do the work, it will still cost a lot.
1. it seems that the 02+ SE-Rs either have boatloads of problems or work almost perfectly. Thou i only have an 02 SE-R, i havent had a single problem whatsoever except on a cold start once. maybe the idea of getting a car made tuesday-thursday isnt so crazy after all. lol
2. although expensive, it would kick @ss to have an se-r spec v that could smoke an srt-4, evo and maybe an sti--its gotta be possible although very expensive. who would see that sleeper commin?
3. arent canadian se-r's more powerful than the american versions in hp and tq? (ide imagine a diff cat or exhaust?) if a diff cat, ide imagine they would have fewer problems too.

1) if you use a supercharger on the spec you'll need an intercooler
2) it' won't cost less
3) if you get the roots supercharger, the one wiht no lag...top end will still suck, and all you'll do is spin tires.
I'd reccomend BRC Performance for pistons. They will custom make a set of forged pistons for less than most guys will sell a stocked size piston...which will limit the type of ring you can use. When you go custom, you can specify exactly what size to cut the ring grooves.
Here's a couple pistons I got for my 300zx. The pics don't really do them justice.
unless you dump 10,000+ into the spec v building the block, sleeving, full standalone, and turbo, you will never beat a slightly modded SRT4 or EVO/STI.
owned.
and DONT get mike started on the spec v's "pencil thin" connecting rods haha
