Well, I played with the short shifter today. It's not quite ready for production as a few minor changes need to be made. It will be made of 7075 aluminum, true aircraft aluminum. It will require no drilling or mauling of any stock parts. It will reduce the throw by over 50% and changes the vague shifter into a true mechanical, on the tranny feel. You will absolutely not believe how good it is until you feel it. 1st to 2nd shift is insane. It will take you a day to get used to it, you can't believe you are actually there.
The unit will be priced at $195, will take approx 30-60 minutes to install, and works awesome. I'll keep you posted as to the ETA.
Not going to have a Project Spec V here. We have the Z, we have the Altima, a Crew Cab and an Xterra. I have an older Sentra, so we're pretty much covered. I'm really fortunate to have all that.
what are the odds that mechanicaly inclined people will try to copy the technique used by ya'll? is there more work than just the basic adjustment of the cable (and bushings one could assume)? or is there actualy a substancial number of changes that would require extensive knowledge of this particluar system. Not that i would copy your system (i may buy it if i keep the car).

Anyone with knowledge and enough tools can duplicate anything. Keep in mind this will be a patented piece. Do so at your own risk.

you'll note that i said i would be buying yours... i have already a hard look at my stock shifter and came to the conclusion that i was not intrested in doing the work, that was over a year ago (6/02).
I was simply wondering if there were mechanical modifications beyond the 'gearbox' (if you call it that). No biggie.
I didn't mean to imply you would try to copy it. Not at all. The piece fits under the console on the shifting mechanism. That's the only place we modify it.
Thank you, i guess i should have just asked the question that way. I have been second guessing myself since nobody had made onr yet. I was fairly confident that my plan would work... but have no fear, i'm a computer geek in an office building, my days of custom fabricating parts for cars ended years ago.

Only the front to back throws are shorter. The side to side motion remains the same, as does height and everything else. Believe me, the height will not be a problem,.
