Hi all,
Wow, its funny how i'm in another forum site. I was orginally in a Toyota forum site where i had a fixed up corolla S which all the cool gadgets and all that made my crap faster. Unfortunately, i was caught up in an accident that total my car, soooooo....my next project was to get the car i was going to get at first before the corolla came into play. (Hey dont blame me for that decision...i was low on $$$ back then! lol) But, now that i have a reasonable amount to purchase a 2003 SE-R..i was curious on knowing
what is the best cold air intake for that car? Injen? Aem? Hotshot?
-and-
What is the best header to place in this car?
Well, i'll be joining your nissan riders soon...with my 2003 se-r soon.
thanks,
Donny
ps
keep in mind its just an SE-R, not the spec v.
And if anyone knows the dyno results after
placing the "best" intake and "best" header...please
let me know...thanks again
when you added your intake first....did u feel the difference? and when u start the car, does it make a big hissing type noise...or is it cool and normal as ur orginal intake? holla back
btw donny, they don't like repeat topics here...better to use the search engine often before you get flamed. cai, header, wheels, most of that is subjective and folks seem to have been back and forth on all of that. if there's something new on the market you'll hear about it soon enough also check http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/ , they have a project spec v and most of those bolt-ons should be se-r compatible. i think there's even a section here on nissanforums about npm project cars, check it out. good luck with your se-r!
In all honesty, considering all we have heard on this site and b15sentra.net, the best intake is the K&N Typhoon....it's the only one that does not have problems with blown mass air flow sensors and the quality is above all, but you will pay for what you get.
The best header is HotShot, fits right and definitely offers the best performance of the many offered already for us.

But you have to think....how many people have the k&n cai? Atleast 10x more people have AEM and Injen, so of course you're going to hear about more blown MAFs with those ones. Just because you haven't heard of a blown MAF with the k&n doesn't mean it hasn't happened. People have had their spec-v MAF blow on the stock intake....it's not the specific intake that kills it, the spec MAF is just plain weak and the extra vibrations from having ANY metal intake will risk blowing it.
Well i just got a 2003 Sentra SE-r , and from what alot are saying about intake and headers....my choice for an intake would be "AEM cai", and for a header -- "HOTSHOT".
I would like my car how it is now...quiet, smooth, and not loud. But i like to add a lil "kick" to it. Thats why...the aem intake would be something that will keep the noise level down, and offer the best kick for my car. AFter all, i just want somethign that will make my car "really go" without all that big noisy stuff...like an exhaust or whatever. Just a nice, good hp gaining intake and maybe a header.
Wouldnt the header as well make alot of noise? Holla back
hehe, well at normal throttle an intake is pretty much silent, when you get to WOT or close to it it starts to roar and is louder than if you had exhaust. A header without exhaust on the qr25 will sound raspy, loud, and just plain bad. If you want silent gains you should get:
Now that was the answer i was looking for...very clear, precise and on time. Thanks buddy....i'l go for the AEM cai, and wait on the header till i get more mulaaaa ($$$). lol...
Just keep in mind, a cai is LOUD at full throttle. I have to pause my conversation with the person in the passenger seat if I ever floor it because it is just too damn hard to hear what they're saying over the intake. I have a WAI which is slightly louder than a CAI and I also have motor mounts which make it slightly louder, but a CAI on a stock car will still be pretty loud. As it is now I simply cannot turn my radio up loud enough to drown out the intake, if you ever floor it in any gear you will hear it no matter what you have going on. This has its advantages and disadvantages....if you pass by a cop you can be as silent as you want to be. If you are next to someone you want to race, as soon as you floor it they will know, I promise you. As an example, I have a friend with a completely stock se-r other than a cai and with my windows up I can hear him floor it up to 70 feet away or so.
yea, thats fine with me. I wouldnt mind having the aem cai and just drive normally (like i do), but when i come to a red light and sum1 wants to run me....then i will most likely floor it full throttle and expect "that noise" u explained. But other then flooring it or having that throttle come about, i want to drive normally and peacefully with a nice mellow sound like i have now......but if it give me a little more noise, then thats fine...but nothing too loud (when i'm not flooring it) that would ruin my car that i payed hard-earned money for =)
take it easy and thanks for all the information player
