Custom Aftermarket Parts

Does anybody know about how much of a diffrence ( in performance) a brand name CAI and exhaust would be as opposed to having them custom built? I know that forged pipes will allow more air then crumple bent, and unfortuneatly both my CAI and exhaust are crumple bent. I couldn't beat the price though (free). I need to get my ass to the track to show and prove, but i am haunted by the fact that although better than stock, my mods are half-assed.

If you've got a "crush-bent" exhaust & intake, your probably not any better then stock. You may even be worse then stock. Those ripples in the piping will cause air flow problems.

Really? I couldn't turn better than a 15.4 at the track. Do you think that getting "real" aftermarket parts could enhance my performance? My mods sound alot better than stock, but i don't feel much of a difference. Also could that be the reason the car idles so low? (500 rpm)

Only reason why it "sounds" better is because it's metal piping in stead of plastic. Those ripples from the crush bends are not helping you achieve the maximum performance gain from those mods. Crush bends can reduce the flow of a pipe by up to 50%.

Read Kojima's article for more information about this.

Thanks Keith, your info has been very educational and enlightening. Now can you recommend a mandrel bent exhaust system for my spec?

Well Stromung and VRS both make full out cat-back exhausts for the Spec-v. I'm also working with another company to fabricate and produce some mild-steel and stainless steel cat-backs as well.

You mention working with other companies, may I inquire as to what other companies your talking to? I am very very keen to get an Apexi N1 designed for the se-r's. Also HKS makes a simular 45 degree angle canister muffler.

Well, unfortunatly I can't really give out specific info on it yet, as I don't want to promise anything to anyone and get peoples hopes up. All I can say is, keep your eyes peeled here on the forum and keep reading NPM as I will be doing an article on the shop very soon.
