Question Gas Question

To all,

I noticed the SpecV recommends Premium fuel so why doesn't the new Altima? The engine is the QD25 and the horsepower is the same so I wander what the deal is. I would think the car would run best with Premium but hasn't anyone tried the mid grade (89) octane?

I thought there was a HP difference, only 5hp or so. That could be from tighter tuning needing higher octane. Or they may just think Spec-V drivers will be harder on the motors and are just adding some insurance.
Just some thoughts.

No, HP rated the same for both (175) which I hear is too generous.

I've used the mid-grade (89) a few times in my Spec V, with no complications. I really believe that this is entirely a performance issue. If you want the most performance/HP from the motor, use the highest octance. I don't think that using lower octane fuel at times will harm the engine in the long run.

The manual says 91 or higher only......
If you can afford a new car...you should be able to afford ~$.20 more a gallon.
