QR25DE Oil Burning Problems

Got a 2004 Spec-V. Car has about 81k miles on it. Motor burns oil like crazy of late. Any advice on what should I check first before I start changing the rings and valve stems? Does anyone else have this problem?

i have a 2003 and am having the same problem. I read online that the engine is known for doing this. I too was on the message board to see if anyone else has this problem because I have been using synthetic oil but if i'm gonna be burning it no matter what then i'm gonna switch to regular due to being cheaper. If anyone can give us some feedback it would be great.

The 2002 - 2006 QR25DE engine sold in the United States has been subject to a significant number of problems in its lifetime. A variety of mechanical flaws have led to numerous technical service bulletins, recalls, repairs, and outright engine replacements.

Vehicles with the QR25DE may ingest material from a damaged pre-catalyst resulting in increased oil consumption.
Power valve screws in the intake manifold may become loose and result in unstable idling or power loss.

Talk to several Nissan dealers to see if they can do something for you; if your car is still under warranty, then the dealer can replace the engine without charge to you.

thanx for the quick response. In my case the car shows to have all 3 recalls done and still burning oil. Should this be the case?

The early QR25DE engines had some sort of design flaw that caused excessive oil burning; in your case, try to get the dealer to replace the engine.

QR will burn to rich in the higher RPM range and at time unburnt gas gets through into the precat adn ruins them. The QR then sucks air back in at times and will suck up precat dust.

If you don't make it, it's your own dame fault.
