I have an 05 SPEC V SE-R, and ive had my car for at leaste a good 6 months. Now on occasions i like to hit redline, and everytime i reach 5000rpm's the engine develops a deeper and more hollow tone. It sounds pretty sick, and i know that this is normal. Recently, actually just yesturday i took it up and i noticed that my cars secondaries didnt open. Once you hit 5000rpms it doesnt develop that sound that lets you distinguish if there open or not. Im kinda worried, is this a problem? The car seems to run fine, and it seems like it actually has MORE power in the upper power band.
they actually open @ 5200 RPM, and when you said they didn't open, did you go past the 5200 RPM range? if so, how far past it?...6000?

If you dont have it floored you wont always hear it (the sound)
yes the pedal is to the ground, and i do take it to 6000rpm, and shift right before the fuel cut off. Its nice not having a throttle cable so it doesnt spike.
you have to push it to the floor at WOT and 5200 for it to kick in. the rush of air for that 2 seconds. Too bad there is no effect lower in the RPM to get that sound. I wonder if anybody has triggered it sooner with a switch??

it opens at that rpm to allow the air to enter shorter runners. Shorter runners=better top end. Longer runners=better low end. Opening the butterflies early can actually lose power, as has been proven before.
I wouldn't mess with the butterflies unless you're turbo.

with the exception of loctiting them.
Mike is right though, people have removed the butterflies alltogther/left them opened however the little bit of top end gained doesn't offset the lower end power you lose.
