P0335 Engine Code--Recall?

Took the car to Firestone dealer because it is dying (full loss of power) for a second or two, followed by return to normal power. Check Engine light came on. Firestone diagnosed P0335, said it's covered by recall, take it to Nissan. Firestone also printed recall notice for me. It lists 4 Sentra VIN ranges, including 3N1*B*1**3L 556548-730379
My VIN is 3N1AB51D53L717422, which falls in that range. Nissan dealer, and now Nissan NA say it is not affected. Symptoms are exactly the same as mentioned in recall NTB03-124, issued 12/19/03. This is a safety hazard, it is my son's first car, Nissan doesn't want to fix it under recall because their computer does not list it. Does a VIN range with wild cards not include all characters? If so, this car is definitely in the range. I am currently paying to have the sensors mentioned in the recall replaced at my cost, hoping to get reimbursed later. Any suggestions?

Call 1-800-nissan-1 they can tell you if there is a recall for your car. But looking at this http://www.nissanhelp.com/Ownership/.../NTB03-124.htm your car does fall under the recall, unless they have already done it. If they already done it then they will not do it again. Make sure you have the other recalls done!

This should be under the recall. Try another dealer, or call NNA (Nissan North America) at the # listed in the previous post. Sometimes recalls are handled quite easily, and sometimes the dealer will be a pain in the ass...

Let's clear this up there USED to be a bulletin / campaign for the cmp/ckp sensors. This is no longer a safety recall nor is there any bulletins in the ASIST at the dealer for these. However there IS a kit that fixes this problem. If you tell the parts guy you need the cam and crank sensor kit for your 2.5 (altima, se-R sentra) he'll know what you mean. This is a weekly problem at my dealership and was corrected in the phase2 QR's. (2007+) The P0335, P0340, and related P0725 are caused by faulty cam or crank sensors and theyre easy to fix. I can do it blindfolded in about 10 minutes. (since you have to change the crankshaft sensor by feel since you cant see it) It's not a hard repair but the crankshaft sensor takes practice and i recommend you change them both and dont go aftermarket. that stuff never works. I constantly replace aftermarket ones.
