Question Spec V problems

Ok here is the deal I have just purchased a 03 Sentra spec v. I got a really good deal on the car but it has a salvage title. The car has been completely redone but come to find out it has some problems. I went to get the car e-checked and the check engine light wasn't coming on when the key was in auxiliary mode so we took the dash apart to see if the light was burned out and found out that the previous owner had put tinfoil in the holes where the check engine light and airbag light should shine through. After taking the tinfoil out the check engine light is fine but the airbag light is on. We are thinking that the people who redid the car didn't put the airbags in properly.
That isn't that big of a deal I will get that fixed. The biggest problem that I have is that it has a 5 speed transmission in it and I recently found out that car doesn't come with a five speed.
I guess the question that I am trying to ask is, is it ok to have a 5 speed in it? Or will it break in the near future?

The 5 speed was available until 2004 IIRC. You likely have the 5 Speed SE-R Non Spec V Transmission

There are no real problems with the 5speed hook up... You should check to see if you have a true specV or just an ser...

I agree, the 5 spd. tranny comes in the SER and in the Special Edition. You might want to pull the serial # and run it.

I agree I think when the car was wrecked the original trany got screwed up and they stuck a 5 speed in it because it was cheaper or easier to get a hold of. But now I am stuck with this car and I don't know if this trany is going to last or not.

Well, I just did some research and found out that the 03 special edition came with an automatic as standard equipment so chances are that the 5SPD you have came from an SER. I'm not 100% sure but I doubt the 5Spd from the 1.8L is the same as the 2.5L.

Assuming the tranny was treated good I would think it will last just fine. It's still a strong tranny and a 5 speed has it's advantages too.

It is hard to find the gears in the car. It kinda feels like reverse is in the wrong spot and you can feel the grove where 6th should be. On the e-way in 5th it is at 3 grand. I think it should be around 2 or 2.5 right?

That depends on your speed. When I had my Spec V, I would be at 3K RPM doing 80MPH in 6th. Are you absolutely sure you don't have the 6 SPD. and someone just changed the shifter to a 5spd. (And don't think I'm trying to insult your intelligence, just trying to think this one through logically since you said it was a salvage)

This is when I am doing 65 mph. Sorry I forgot to put that in my last post.
I don't think that you are trying to insult me at all. Any tips that I can get are much appreciated! I am only 24 and a girl to top it all off. I don't know much about cars, just the basics. I grew up in a family that all the boys have V8's and they don't know much about 4 cylinders. So I can use the help. I don't think there is a 6th speed in it. How would I find out if the shifter won't let me go into 6th?

Well, based on the information you just provided, 3K RPM doing 65 mph in 5th. This is the gearing of the 5 SPD. Sentra tranny. Anyone with a 1.8S or SER can tell you. As far as your worries of it blowing up, you should take it to a Nissan dealership if you notice any problems or get any warning lights. For now though, it should be fine if the person who installed it did a good job.
