the nine

i'm new here. had a question. my rpm gauge seems possessed. it's dead at 0 most of the time, but then all of a sudden pops up and works for a few seconds and dies at 0 again. the car is working fine without it. does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be and possibly how to fix it?

i didnt do anything to the car. i drive normally. raced the car only twice, and last time was like four months ago. but, around March, i remember i was on the way to a theme park one morning, and the car's rpm dropped on the freeway, lost power, and next morning the car wasnt working. mechanic said it was the ignition sensor. he changed it. all of a sudden, a couple of months later, my tach goes bad.

i dont have warranty any longer. i can take it to the mechanic, but i try to solve things myself first.
