Rev the car to 2k or whenever it makes the sound, have someone outside the car help locate the sound. I'm willing to bet it's something to do with the exhaust or heat shields.
Yeah, I posted about my '04 doing this a long time ago. They ended up replacing the engine at 8,000 miles, because they found a damaged precat while looking for the rattle. The new engine does the same thing.
Eventually, I learned to live with it. I personally think it's minor detonation at cruise, which doesn't make me happy, and I'm planning to dump the car before the warranty runs out.

You running 93 octane? If there was detonation, the knock sensor would pull timing right away. The sensor is pretty sensitive in these engines, from what I have heard.
93 octane only means 93 octane only. The is a reason for this. The rattle you hear could be caused by knock, which is deadly to any engine. Akin to misfires and so forth.
The only heat sheild problem I experienced with my 02 was when it was cooling. the tempature changes affect the metal ( heat= expand/ cool= contract) so that could be it as well.

Well when i took my car to the dealer to get look at for the check egeine light they said it was a bad o2 sensor!!! but they tried to take out the orattle sensor to replace it,but would not come out!!! it was cross threaded they said! so they had to replace the whole exhaust manifold!!! and they said that they cant heir the rattle!! which is a lie because they called me and told me that they could here it!! the rallet is loud a shit!! so i going to take the car back up there cause i think the pre cat went bad and that means my exhaust is most like fucked up!! i really hate dealers!! (i found tools in the engine bay and some stuff not even put back on, like my wheel liner and some other small stuff!!) i have 11,000 mile on my car now and the hole exhauat
If the cat in your exhaust manifold "went bad" your engine, not your exhaust, will be F'ed up. The back pressure has been known to force particles of the breaking-down pre-cat back into the engine, which may score the cylinder walls and cause you engine to start consuming lots of oil. Are you consuming oil? If so you should be able to get your engine replaced under warranty; Nissan knows about this "feature" of the QR. If your pre-cat is okay you want to put an aftermarket header on there so this doesn't happen in the future.
That dealer's repair department seems a bit shady. I'd find a dealer that you can trust. Where are you located in MD?

im located in waldorf md!!! 30 miles from dc!! yea im taking my car up monday and asking for the manger and get this all straight! i hate getting yanked around cause im younger and they think that they can get away with it! well it dose consume some oil but not much! after the 1000 mile brake in it be consuming a 1/2 a quart ever 3000 mile! but i drive my car really hard so i think thats were that comes from!! im looking at getting the dc sport header around Christmas time but i want to get this rattle thing taken care of first!
#1: I live in CA, so 91 is as good as the octane gets here. Dealership says it's fine.
#2: Dealership also says they never pulled knock codes; I think it's a subtle knocking that's not strong enough to be picked up by the sensor.
#3: It only happens when the engine's really warm (over 70 degrees out, driving for more than 8 miles) which to me says "head's getting too hot".
The noise is at cruise only, comes from the cylinder head, and happened with two engines in the same car -- which suggests a design problem rather than a mechanical one-off defect. I personally suspect that, stuffed into the Sentra's small engine compartment, there's too much heat building up and the cooling system can't quite keep the head cool enough when things get hot, but is big enough to get the coolant back down to a reasonable temperature, so no overheating showing up.
Or maybe it's elves. Either way, it goes before the warranty's up, which is a shame, because I really love the car otherwise.
