I purchased it used from a dealer. Car is fantastically running as long as it does not have to climb a steep slope. This is first time I am driving a car so I am bit concerned. Here, are the problems:
1. Every morning when start my car and I have to take the car in the reverse. I have to push gas paddle hard to make it sure that car goes in the reverse. My parking is on a slope (not steep at all though). If I push paddle hard for 3-4 seconds and then take the car in reverse no problem but if I directly push the paddle and take car in the reverse then car does not move much even if I push paddle hard.
2. On a way towards my office ,there is a long steep slope. Most of the heavy vehicles start their emergency lights when they are on this slope. When I drive on this road, after reaching this slope, no matter how hard I push the gas paddle, the speed does not go beyond 40-45 and I feel like the car is not acclerating at all. The RPM during this time shows little more than 4 on the dial.
I asked some people and they say try to drive on gear 2 when you are on this slope. Others say this is a common problem with Nissan engine, some other says this may be due to transmission problem. I am driving this car for less than a month so I am not sure. Please please please help. Thank you.
well, you have to remember this car does not come with very much power to begin with, and the automatic transmission makes it even more sluggish. Put the car in 2nd while going up the hill and see if it helps any. Also try taking overdrive off.
As for reverse.....I hope you're putting your foot on the brake while shifting into reverse....right? Now, if you have to reverse up a hill, you're definitely going to need to give it a decent amount of gas......as I said before the car is not powerful and has to use all of the few horsepower it makes.
It might be a good time, however, to take the car to Nissan and have a tune up done. New spark plugs, air filter, fuel injector cleaning, fluids check, etc.
Thanks chimmike. I will try OD off. I actually bought from the dealer and dealer said everything is fine and serviced.
what should be RPM reading when car is climbing a long and steep slope. I have observed that in the presence of slope, RPM reading goes over 4 and engine makes louder sound.
I know, I might be asking some basic questions but I am new driver so your words and help matter to me a lot. Thank you again chimmike.

ya even when i had my 1.8 s auto, it never seem to be as sluggish its being described ^^^, in fact it felt very responsive. Just felt gutless compared to the spec v i drive now. The auto 1.8 is the worst of the worst in terms of performance or anything really. Just comfort i guess...
