error codes

nissan sentra 2000 gxe
i took my car to autozone, and nissan dealer ..
my error code is P0171
which in the dealer they told me is the mass air flow sensor ..
and autozone .. told me is a problem with the catalytic converter
it says this ..

the pcm has determined that during testing,. the fuel system for bank 1 was too lean. ( bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

help me out please

that specific code is an O2 sensor code, per the Nissan factory service manual.

which o2 sensor do you think it will be ?
the mass air flow sensor ?
because some strong smell is coming out of my hood .. or well everytime i open the hood .. it smells strong .. and somebody told me that .. the mass air flow sensor is not sending correct signals to the ECU and its not burning the air/fuel correctly so smells like that ?
do you think is taht?
thats the only error code it comes out in the machine ..

it's bank 1 sensor 1 i think. I'm not exactly positive which one that is.
