Im a service Tech. Im working on a 2000 Nissan Sentra. The Car is pulling a "check engine" light during operation. I can Cleared the Code and It reappears. Ive Checked the Catalytic Temp, All appears nominal. This isnt to say the Main Cat isnt bad. The Reason im posting this is because Ive seen a few posted about the 2000-2001 Maxima's having a problem with the ECM posting this code and a Flash reprogram to the ECM corrected the issue.
Does the problem affecting the maxima also effect the Sentra's ECM? Im just holding off from slapping a new Cat in there unless I have to.
BTW: Ive call the dealer and of course they have never heard of a problem with the maxima or the sentra...
code 0420 is an O2 sensor if I remember correctly. the 0420 is usually a post-catalytic O2 sensor....the 1.8 L sentra (I'm assuming that's what it is) can blow them occasionally.
might want to try replacing it (but not new, it's a total ripoff)...........OR check for leaks around the exhaust manifold/cylinder head gasket or header/secondary gasket.
The Vehicle has 65,000 Miles. Ill run the EGO on an O2 Dyno and or Swap it . I dont have any OBDII Data acquisition Equiptment. Im simply polling Codes.
As for Exhaust leaks, I checked for that. None Present.
But per. my first question. Is the programming problem with the Altima's also Effecting the Sentra's of the same year?
Yes, The manifold looks like an EGO Plant. LOL
2-pre 2-post EGO's.
The only reason I havent just done an R&R on everything is because it is my mothers Car. So, Im not playing Flat-Rate Tech on her and replacing everything. Ill Probably Just order both Post O2's.
Performance Question:
Her car is a Snail, Even for a 4-cyl. I runs very Smooth, and consistance power through the entire Power band. I believe it is just under powered.
Since she is in her 60's she thinks the car is fine.
The only maintance that has been performed is Air Filter replacement and Oil changes. I Replaces a Failed Bearing in the Idler Pulley last year. Ive been told by Co-works that the Plug dont need to be changed untill 75,000 miles.
What do you think? Also, How does the Ignition system Respond to Iridium Plugs?
just throw in stock NGK platinums. want to give it a boost? you can throw on an intake probably........or Unorthodox Racing crank pulley (since I assume she uses her A/C a lot) this will give a noticeable difference with the a/c on.
