My sister is complaining about some oil spots on the floor of the garage coming from her 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE, also automatic and 1.8 lts.
A local mechanic detected an oil leak, but he says is from the main power steering pressure hose, not from the oil pan or from the filter. I saw the oil spots my sister pointed out and I thought it could be either transmission fluid or engine oil, because the floor was already partially cleaned. I doubt my sister's Sentra is leaking engine oil, but it is possible. Probably or more likely, is a transmission fluid leak. A technician at the main local dealer told me that according to his experience, vibration contributes to loose the brackets of this hoses, so maybe is just a matter of adjustments. If it is the main power steering pressure hose, well, the car has more than 40,500 miles already so it is out of the basic warranty that covers the power steering system, and those pressure hoses are expensive....I bought two for my Sentra and it costs around $200 or more in some cases. But, my 1993 Nissan Sentra damaged that hose after more than 7 years of use, not after less than 3 years like my sister's Sentra has.
Well, I like my sister's Sentra GXE 1.8 lts because it runs better and easier under normal and severe driving conditions, but I will check today to see where that leak comes from.
Thanks
